2010 George Washington Birthday Celebration Events

Due to the snow emergency in the City of Alexandria, the George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee announces the cancellation of the major outdoor Celebration Events scheduled for the weekend of February 13, 14, and 15.  This cancellation includes:

  • "George Washington Classic" 10-K Race on Saturday, February 13th;
  • Revolutionary War Encampment at Fort Ward Park on Sunday, February 14th;
  • On Monday, February 15th
    • the Friendship Breakfast at the Holiday Inn & Suites Hotel
    • Tomb Ceremony at the Old Presbyterian Meeting House
    • George Washington Birthday Parade in Old Town. 

The Birthnight Banquet and Ball will be held as scheduled on Saturday, February 13th at Gadsby's Tavern and the Committee will announce the winners of the "Cherry Challenge" on Monday, February 15th.

George Washington Comes to Dinner at Carlyle House

The Cherry Challenge

Description: Enjoy and vote for your favorite cherry-inspired culinary creation in George Washington’s home town! Each participating restaurant will create a unique menu item featuring cherries. Each patron who orders the item will have the opportunity to rate it by submitting a ballot. The winning restaurant will be in the George Washington Birthday Parade, receive a plaque, and other recognition (including a feature in Washingtonian Magazine).

Dates: February 1 through 7, 2010. Check back for a list of participating restaurants.

 

George Washington Classic 10K Race (& 1-mile Fun Run)

THIS EVENT WILL NOT TAKE PLACE THIS YEAR.

 

Birthnight Banquet & Ball

Description: You will be part of a reenactment of the ball held In George Washington's honor at Gadsby's in 1797! Colonial attire is not required! 18th-century dancing lessons are available prior to the Ball (for an additional fee).

Date: Saturday, February 13, 2010  Time: 5:30 p.m.

Location: Gadsby’s Tavern Museum, 134 N. Royal St., Alexandria.

Ticket Price:  $100 for banquet & ball, $50 for ball only (begins at 9). Advance reservations required; and we suggest making an early reservation.

Revolutionary War Reenactment at Fort Ward Park

THIS EVENT WILL NOT TAKE PLACE THIS YEAR.

 

Worship at Historic Christ Church (Espiscopal)

Description:  Washington was a member of this church. We honor the first President during services by reading the prayer he composed, laying a wreath in his memory, and displaying the Washington Family Bible.
