6th Annual Cherry Challenge Welcomes New Participants and Reigning Cherry Champs
"Cherry Challenge Week" is February 2 through 8, 2014!
The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee in Alexandria proudly announces the sixth annual Cherry Challenge. In the spirit of the old cherry tree tale, we are celebrating George Washington's important presence in his hometown of Alexandria by inviting Alexandria restaurants to participate in this culinary contest! We urge everyone to patronize the participating restaurants during the week of February 2 through February 8, 2014...and vote for your favorite CHERRY drinks, starters, entrees and desserts.
To participate, all you need to do is to enjoy the menu item that includesCHERRIES. During this week, each patron who orders the item will have the opportunity to submit a ballot on which they rate the item on taste, creativity, and presentation. Announcing the Winners
of the 4th Annual Cherry Challenge
The George Washington Birthday Celebration Committee is proud to announce the winners of their fourth annual “Cherry Challenge.”
The Cherry Challenge took place during the week of February 5-11th in twenty Alexandria restaurants, and featured cherry-inspired dishes, drinks, and desserts created by the restaurant chefs. Some of the restaurants have competed in the past, but there were several restaurants new to the competition…in fact, new to Alexandria, including RedRocks, T.J. Stones, Virtue Feed and Grain, and others.
Each person who ordered the dish or menu item was supplied with a ballot so that they could judge the menu item on taste, presentation and creativity. Scoring was done by rating both the number of ballots submitted, and how each dish rated in the palates of the citizens who ordered the items. All winning restaurants receive a handsome plaque and were presented in the George Washington Birthday Parade. The winning drink was featured at the Birthnight Banquet and Ball at Gadsby’s Tavern Museum.
